I have to admit that I was pretty nervous about this appointment. They are not fun, and Hudson usually has a hard time. I HATE having to hold him down, and he's not so tiny anymore, so I knew it wouldn't be easy. We talked about his ultrasound and showed him what they were going to do. We let him practice on us, and tried to prepare him as best we could. The thing he was most worried about was not wanting to "lay down". He kept telling us that he "didn't want to lay down on that bed".
I was SO proud of him. He wasn't exactly happy, but he didn't cry at all. He was a little apprehensive, but he did so good! After radiology, we headed up to meet with Dr. Donohoe. These appointments are always full of waiting. Lots and lots of waiting. It's ok though, because I know that we have the best doctor caring for Hudson, and we are also blessed to have the CMC 25 minutes away. There are lots of children and parents who travel many hours just to be seen at this hospital.
I try to prepare for the waiting by bringing snacks, drinks, monster trucks, the portable DVD player, etc, etc, etc...
At least The Lion King was playing in our second waiting room....
more waiting...
Who am I kidding? As hard as I try to keep H from touching EVERYTHING, it never works. I know that it's kid friendly, and the intentions are to provide fun stuff for the kiddos, but it's STILL a hospital.
weight check
and temp and blood pressure...this used to be a stressful part of the visit for Hudson, but again, no tears!!
Now it's time for more waiting in the exam room. Like I said, we don't mind because Dr. Donohoe is awesome and we know he's really busy helping lots of kids.
Time for some snacks and a DVD.
Hudson got a good report. PTL!!! Dr. Donohoe thought that he looked great and healthy. His hydronephrosis is still a grade 3, but it's ok because he will always have an "enlarged kidney". His kidney, ureter, and bladder looked great. His kidney has not grown since last September, but that's not a concern right now because it is large to begin with.
All of the nurses were so glad to see Hudson, and couldn't believe how big he's gotten. They had a fit over him, and we had to go around and see the ones that didn't come into his exam room. The staff there is so wonderful. They have known Hudson and seen him many times since he was born starting when he was 2 days old. It's been a year since we've been, so they were glad to see him. We don't have to go back until Sept. 2013!
When we were leaving the hospital, H spotted this butterfly on these flowers. He wanted me to take a picture of it. I think it was appropriate and a great sign after we'd just gotten good news.
What a brave boy!
After the kidney appointment, we had Hudson's 3 year well visit with his pediatrician (a little late, I know). He had a great check up there as well. He's 39 1/2 pounds and 41 in tall. He's in the 95th % for weight and he's off the charts for height.
Here he is at the end of the day with his Spiderman sticker that he was so proud of. He did so good today with NO tears even though he got his flu shot. I was proud of him.
We thank our Lord for a healthy, brave, and beautiful boy!
