Dear Hudson,
Five years ago today, I witnessed you enter the world.
I cried.
It wasn't because I was sad, but quite the opposite. You were the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I knew my life was forever changed.
Recently, you started kindergarten. I walked into your new classroom with you on that first day and took your picture. You waved and told me goodbye with your big, beautiful smile.
FIVE!!!
How did this happen?
How did we get here so fast?
I am so proud of you and the way that you bravely take on all of your new adventures like such a champ, so grown beyond your short 5 years.
I love the little boy that you have grown into. Your laugh and charming smile get me every single time, and those dimples make me melt.
I love that you are very strong willed an although it drives me crazy at times, I know that you get it honest and that it's a trait that will serve you well in life.
I love your eagerness to learn new things, your determination, and how your questions reveal how thoughtful, smart, and reflective you are.
Your imagination drives your playful spirit and you can sit and pretend for hours.
Your intense love and determination in sports, and your athleticism make us excited about your future in sports. You want to play ball ALL THE TIME, and you are really good at it. We can't wait to see which sport or sports you pick to concentrate on once you get older.
Your third soccer season just started and you played your first season of baseball last Spring. You are a great swimmer and had a blast boogie boarding this year at the beach. You are so proud of your hand stands, flips, and diving to the bottom of the deep end in the pool. You do everything that you see the older kids doing.
Anyone who knows you would agree that you are very helpful. You enjoy helping others, and you are very independent.
Your nurturing spirit is so sweet. You are drawn to younger kids and you love helping them. Charlotte and Brantley are your "little sister and little brother", and you love showing them how to do things, and playing with them.
Claire is your very best friend and you two are more like siblings than friends. I am so thankful for the special bond that you two have, and even more thankful that you look out for each other and take care of each other.
You are very social and you do not meet a stranger. You love striking up conversations with anyone that will lend an ear.
When you grow up, you want to be a veterinarian.

On this "whole hand" birthday, there are so many things that I wish for you.
I want you to be the best YOU that you can be, and be proud of yourself because you were created with intent and for a special purpose.
You are fearfully and wonderfully made, and there is no one else like YOU.
Be confident but not arrogant, and continue to be an encourager of others.
Accept failures, and learn from them.
Most of all be faithful, believing in your amazing Creator. Follow God's path, and be the best YOU!
I will be your biggest cheerleader in life. Know that I am always proud of you, and thankful that I get to help you become what you were created to be.
Happy Whole Hand Birthday to my Baby Boy!!!
I love you more than words can express.
Love, Mom
