Welcome To Our World

I have created this blog to keep all of our friends and family updated on what is going on in our lives, and to provide updates on Hudson's progress with his kidney issues. We are SO blessed to have such faithful friends and family that pray continuously for our sweet baby boy and his medical needs. THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for caring so much!
First, I must wish every one a very Merry CHIRSTmas. I hope that you all are enjoying the real meaning of the season and that you are able to spend this time with your families. This Christmas is so special to us because it's our first as a family of 3! I was pregnant last Christmas, but didn't know it yet...it was Dec. 29th when we found out we were expecting our first bundle of love. What an exciting year it has been! On August 25th at 12:34 pm, Hudson David was born. He is precious, and we are so in love with him. He makes every day so much more wonderful.

When I was 19 wks preggo, my specialist found that Hudson only had one kidney. This was not too much of a concern because obviously it's pretty common in males. (who knew?) As my pregnancy progressed, we learned that his kidney was enlarged and was malformed. Hudson has hydronephrosis in the right kidney. His urine refluxes back into his kidney and does not completely drain out. He takes an antibiotic daily to prevent urinary infections. His ureter is also enlarged. He will more than likely need a ureter reimplantation to fix this. When he was born we were going to CMCG every 7-10 days to have lots of tests run to try and figure out why his kidney and ureter were so enlarged. During a mag-3 test (which was TERRIBLE for mommy) they found that he has a partial blockage. The reimplantation surgery will correct this.
Where do we stand now? Well, we had an appointment with Dr. Donahoe (WONDERFUL doctor) yesterday, and the ultrasound showed no change. This is good and bad. Good because it has not gotten worse, and bad because we were hoping that the reflux would correct itself. Anyway, each time we go for an appt. Hudson's kreatinin levels are checked. As long as his levels stay good, we are in the clear and it buys us more time before the surgery. Dr. Donahoe does not want to do the surgery until Hudson's bladder has more time to grow. (probably around one year or so) If he has to do it earlier, it would be a temporary surgery and he would have to go back in again later. (no fun!) Please pray that his little body and kidney continue to filter out the appropriate toxins and that he continues to do well so that his bladder can grow.
Whew...that sure is a lot but we trust and know that God is in total control and is taking care of our little boy. Hudson is fearfully and wonderfully made, and this is no accident.
Well, I am enjoying being off work this week and next. (the perks of teaching) I feel like I am on maternity leave again, and it's wonderful to be home with Hudson all day. I am excited about our girls Christmas Party tonight at my good friend's new house. It's going to be great to catch up. We have had some major life changes this year...marriage, babies, buying houses, etc... I will post some pics when I figure out how to do that. If you are still reading, thanks for following me on my ramblings, and again MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
